The British Connection was opened in March of 2002
by David and Barbara Brown.
David was born in London and raised in the east coast of England in Dovercourt where his family still lives today. Barbara is from Huntingdon Valley, PA and Ocean City, NJ.
Barbara met David while living in London in 1992. They married in 1993 in Wandsworth Town and relocated to the USA in 1994. Deprived of proper tea and real bacon, they made the fanciful decision to open a British shop in their adopted town of Historic Smithville, NJ.
Dave and I started with our favorites: HP sauce, branston pickle, cadbury chocolate, piccalili, danish bacon and PG Tips. Before long, we had 100's of items. We never imagined there were so many hungry people out there! Of course, we have all the regular staples such as McVities biscuits, Marmite, Salad Cream, Bird's Custard and Ribena. We also carry harder to find items like Shippams pastes, mushy peas, Cadbury Chocolate spread and Spotted Dick.
If it is gourmet foods you crave, we have a full line of Thursday's Cottage Jams and Marmalades, Clotted Cream, Ivy Cottage Scone mix, Creme de Marrons & Mushroom Ketchup. A new addition to our gourmet foods is L' Epicurian brand of Chesse Condiments. For a delicious accompaniment to your favorite cheeses try Fig and Walnut, Cider confit with Apple and Calvados, or Williams Pear White Wine Confit.
A complaint we hear from ex-pats everyday is how impossible it is to get a proper curry here in the USA. Well, now you can make your Curry at home with Sharwoods Curry Sauces! We have Tikka Masala, Rogan Josh, Madras, Korma, Jalfrezi, Balti and Spicy Tikka. Don't forget the Poppadums and Mango Chutney...
Bangers, Bangers, Bangers!!! We have loads and loads of Bangers! Winstons Irish Bangers, Winstons Scottish Bangers, Balson Bangers, Harold Woods Cumberland, Lincolnshire and plain Pork Bangers and Chippolattas. Cameron's Scottish Meat Pies, Pork Pies, Bridies, Banger Rolls....Piccadilly Pies and Pasties and Dave's favorite Steak and Kidney Pie. Black and White Pudding and Haggis.....yes, it is all here! Finally, after years of waiting, we now have Aunt Bessies Yorkshire Puddings, Parsnips, Roast Potatoes, Chips and finally KIPPERS! NEW... Authentic Pork Pies by English Pork Pie company!
Christmas is a wonderful time here at The British Connection! Everything you need for a lovely British Christmas....Plum Pudding, Christmas Cake, Mince Pies, Thorntons and Walkers Toffees, Christmas Crackers....and....Mr. Kiplings cakes are not just for Christmas anymore! We are now able to carry Battenburgs, Cherry Bakewells and Apple pies all year long!
If Tea is your passion, you will find a paradise here. Taylor's of Harrogate (loose and bags) , Harrisons and Crossfield (Loose and bags), Ahmad, TYPHOO and PG Tips. Also available, South African Rooibos in several flavors, Metropolitan Tea from Canada in many fun and fabulous flavors like Maple, Icewine and Chocloate Mint to name just a few, and Teaposy from right here in the USA.

Our new shop is bigger and better than ever! In addition to all of our tasty British Foods, we now carry Gourmet foods from around the world and Fine Cheese cut to order! Our new shop has a small cafe' area where you may enjoy a piping hot pot of tea or cafetiere of coffee, and we also serve scones with clotted cream and assorted jams!
We hope this new location will be more convenient for you, and if it is not,we can only promise that the new store will be worth the extra few miles down the road!
